Rotational Painting
Students attempted to color the shape of a butterfly by applying marker to paper that had been temporarily affixed to a rotating pottery wheel.
Then, the outline of the butterfly shape was cut out with scissors, revealing the following optical effect. Some butterflies were glued in a free composition to create a group work.
This is a variation of the technique that was used in an educational event at the opening of Damien Hirst's "Requiem" exhibition at the Pinchuk Art Centre in April 2009.
