Spiral of Seeds

The work *Spiral Jetty* by the American sculptor Robert Smithson is one of the most iconic works of the Land Art movement. The sculpture was constructed in 1970 on the northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake in Utah from salt crystals, mud, and rocks, forming a spiral-shaped jetty measuring 460 meters in length. It is a work that enters into dialogue with the water and the surrounding landscape of the lake.

The students created spirals by pressing seeds from leguminous plants into clay. Once the clay dried, the spirals were placed on the ground in the school courtyard so that, with the rain, the seeds would germinate and enrich the soil with nutrients. This technique refers to natural farming practices that use clay pellets containing seeds within them.
