Caspar David Friedrich 5/9 / 1773-7 / 5/1840 was a 19th century German painter. He is considered one of the most important painters of Romanticism. His work is based on his religious faith and on his love for the German countryside. His works may reflect intense mysticism as well as religious allegories while focusing on the divine and metaphysical dimensions of nature. The students were asked to comment on the female figure, her posture, how they relate to the sunset, etc. Finally, they filled in the empty of color image that was given to them, presenting their own sunset based on their personal experiences and color choices.
